Cruise Genie is the original cruise brand of Peter “Mr. Cruise” Coloyan and part of Smart Traveler. The idea has always been simple: you make the wish — the destination, the dates, the kind of trip — and we put you in touch with a cruise specialist who can make it happen.
You cannot book on this site, and you will not reach a call center. Cruise Genie is a free referral service: when you request a quote, your request goes to independent cruise professionals who specialize in the type of cruise you want — ocean, river, luxury, expedition or a special-interest trip. The specialist who takes your request becomes your cruise counselor, from planning through sailing and after you return.
Why a verified specialist? Travel agents earn specialist designations by completing cruise-line and destination training programs. We verify those designations, with the supplier where needed, and route each request only to agents verified in that area. In our experience, travelers matched with a true specialist get better advice and a better-fitting cruise — and happier travelers are good for the agent and the cruise line too.

Cruise Genie was founded by Peter Coloyan, Sr. — “Mister Cruise”, President of Smart Traveler. Peter has sold travel since 1972 and worked full-time in the industry since 1977. He has sold or originated more than $500 million in cruises and has trained more than 500 travel agents.

Peter grew up in the business. His father entered the travel industry with TWA in 1935 in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and in 1955 the family opened a travel agency in Melrose, Massachusetts. Peter sold his first cruise there, part-time, in 1972, and has worked full-time in travel since 1977.
In 1996 he owned four retail agencies in South Florida; he sold all but one and moved the business online, making it one of the first independently owned travel agencies on the internet. By 1998 it was selling more than $10 million a year in cruises online. From 2001 to 2007 he owned a host agency that grew to 87 agents and $17 million in annual sales, mostly cruises, before selling it to Expedia CruiseShipCenters. Since 1996 he has sold or originated more than $500 million in cruises. In 2023 he formed the nonprofit Best of the USA, of which Smart Traveler is the travel division.
